LANCASTER – Day one of the regional track meet at Fairfield-Union High School saw many Northern 10 Conference girls punch their tickets to the regional finals on Friday.

With times posted, many will be making the trip to Jesse Owens Stadium at Ohio State University for next week’s state meet.

Buckeye Central sophomore sprinter Aubrey Wright qualified for day two after a second place finish in her 100 meter dash heat. She ran a time of 12.96, which could be good enough for state. Of the eight that qualified, three posted the same time and two were just a hundredth of a second faster. Wright also finished ninth in the high jump with a lead of 4-10.

Colonel Crawford senior Megan Lyons grabbed a sixth place finish in the girls shot put finals. The top four advance to the state meet. Lyons had a toss of 35-07.25, less than an inch behind the fourth place thrower. Lyons will compete in the girls discus Friday and is expected to compete for the gold. Her seed mark is 120-09, second best in the field.

Seneca East senior Hannah Hahler took home a regional championship in the girls shot put with a throw of 38-04.5. Her throw was more than two inches longer than the runner-up’s toss.

Colonel Crawford sophomore Sam Mutchler flew under the radar but over the high jump bar for a fifth place finish with a jump of 5-01. One more inch and she would have tied for fourth place and a shot to participate at state.

The Lady Eagles 4x100 relay team anchored by four event participant junior Callie Ruffener ran a qualifying time of 52.47 for a trip to day two.

The Wynford Royals had a great showing from their girls track stars. Sophomore Hayley McCoy will compete for a shot at state in the 400 meter dash. Her 1:02.16 time was good enough to grab her the seventh qualifying spot. The 4x400 relay team, anchored by senior Ellie Richmond, will advance to Friday’s finals race with a time of 4:12.77.

Richland County athletes also produced a strong showing. Lucas sophomore Alex Depue will compete in the girls 100 meter dash (12.96) and 100 meter hurdles (16.38). Plymouth senior Jessica Henderson will be the lone member of the Lady Big Red to advance to day two with a 1:02.94 400 meter dash time.

Rounding out the area was Mount Gilead with three day two qualifiers. Sophomore Olivia Brewer ran a 26.58 in the 200 meter dash, sophomore Rebecca Kindred ran a 16.57 in the 100 meter hurdles and senior Rachel Bush qualified with a 47.52 as her 300 meter hurdle time. The Mount Gilead 4x400 meter relay team also will advance with a time of 4:10.59.

With just three events scored, Seneca East is in a three way tie for a team regional championship with 10 points. Colonel Crawford sits just four points back with six. Day two will resume at 5 p.m. Friday at Fairfield-Union High School.
