Plans underway for new Lindsey fire station

Paula Fahle N-M correspondent

The fire station in downtown Lindsey is coming down in April. The Lindsey department’s New Community Fire Station Capital Campaign that department members have been working toward has reached its goal of raising $1 million to replace the aging existing station. There are no tax dollars included in this amount that will build the new station and meeting room. The goal was reached Dec. 27 through donations, pledges and money raised by the LVFD members at annual fundraising events.

The Lindsey Volunteer Fire Department is ready to start construction of the new community fire station, but before they do, they want to give the public an opportunity to visit the old station before it is demolished next month. There will be an official groundbreaking ceremony from 3 to 7 p.m. March 29 at the station on Main Street.

There will be a short presentation at 4:30 p.m. about the project. While the $1 million will build the station and meeting room, it will not be enough to fund the tables and chairs needed for the training room, computer equipment, desks, filing cabinets, shelving and other furnishings that may be useful. If you are not able to attend but would like to make a pledge to this continuing project, you can contact Deputy Chief, and campaign chairman, Jason Conklin at 419-680-4026.
