ATHENS – Two area residents received doctor of osteopathic medicine degrees from the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine during its May 9 commencement.

•Orman Trent Hall, of Lancaster. The son of Marilyn and Orman Hall, of Lancaster, Dr. Hall in 2008 earned a bachelor of science in communication studies from Ohio University, and is a 2003 graduate of Lancaster High School in Lancaster.

•Kathleen R. Schurr, of Carroll. In 2010, Dr. Schurr earned a bachelor of arts in anthropology from Beloit College in Wisconsin, and is a 2006 graduate of Bloom Carroll High School.

WORCESTER, Mass. – Samuel Patrick Jones, of Canal Winchester, received a bachelor of arts degree, cum laude, from the College of the Holy Cross on May 22.

Miami University

OXFORD – Two area graduate students from Miami University’s Project Dragonfly are traveling abroad for the project.

Carrie Brown of Lancaster, a master’s student in the Advanced Inquiry Program from Miami University’s Project Dragonfly and Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, will travel to Belize to study coral reefs, manatees, howler monkeys, jaguars and other wildlife while learning the methods communities are using to sustain them.

Melissa Hieber of Sugar Grove, a master’s student in the Global Field Program the project, will travel to Thailand to study emerging models in conservation and education as well as spiritual connections to nature.

Fulbright award

Miami University senior Nicole Smith, of Pickerington, has been awarded a 2015-2016 Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship.

Smith will teach in Germany during the 2015-2016 academic year. Smith is majoring in English: Literature and English: Creative Writing.

SOUL

Chelsea Appiah, of Pickerington, was named a Student Orientation Undergraduate Leader (SOUL) for the summer at Miami University. She will lead small groups of incoming first-year students. She is majoring in professional writing, interactive media studies.

Ohio Valley University

VIENNA, W.Va. – Laura Middleton Putinski, of Lancaster, graduated from Ohio Valley University.
