Reese and other Muskingum U alumni honored

NEW CONCORD – Muskingum University recently honored former students at an alumni weekend.

The President’s Medal went to 1988 graduate Perry L. Reese Jr. Audrey Hardy and Jennifer Betha of Canton accepted for their late brother. Reese was honored for his contributions as an educator, basketball coach and community leader at Hiland High School in Berlin. A story on Reese in “Sports Illustrated” from March 2001 was voted one of the magazine’s 60 all-time best earlier this year.

Distinguished Service Awards went to Gordon F. Litt, Barbara Young Morris, Kim Ronald Smith and Maurice E. Wilber in recognition of personal and professional achievements.

Litt, Class of 1980, is a partner at the Baker & Hostetler law firm in Columbus and has been recognized since 2003 by the American College of Trust and Estate Council as one of the best lawyers in the country in the areas of tax law and trusts and estates.

Morris, Class of 1967, worked for global health care company Baxter International for 17 years followed by 10 years with Winston Partner Incorporated, assisting privately held firms into public ownership. She’s currently an adviser for My Next Season, helping corporate executives with transition to retirement.

Smith, Class of 1977, is manager partner of Harman, Underhill & Brubaker, specializing in labor and employment, school governance and leadership and students and special education law. She’s past president of the Lancaster Bar Association and the Labor and Employment Relations Association of Central Pennsylvania.

Wilber, Class of 1968, is the founding owner and president of Applied Management Solutions Inc., which provides research and assistance to federal entities in the realm of aerospace and aviation. He previously worked as an aerospace program analyst for General Electric, Honeywell, General Dynamics and Martin Marietta Corporation.
