BURLINGTON TOWNSHIP – Three people were taken to area hospitals after a multivehicle crash Wednesday morning at the intersection of U.S. 62 and Ohio 661.

Ohio State Highway Patrol Lt. Kevin Miller said a Honda Civic that was headed north on Ohio 661 failed to yield at the stop sign, pulled out and was struck by a pickup truck headed west on U.S. 62 around 9:10 a.m. Wednesday.

The pickup struck a semi truck that was parked near the intersection and a light pole for the traffic light, Miller said.

Camon Hochstedler, 24, of Gambier and his passenger, Kylan Hochstedler, both were extricated from the pickup. Camon was taken to Licking Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, and Kylan went to Grant Medical Center in Columbus with moderate injuries, according to a news release from the patrol.

The driver of the Civic, Devin Warner, 24, of Granville, also had to be extricated and was flown by Air Evac medical helicopter to the Wexner Medical Center at Ohio State University.

Miller said the driver in the semi, Jeffrey Boudinot, 60, of Croton, was not injured.

All the people who were taken to hospitals were alert and responsive when they were transported, Miller said.

The release from the patrol said that all drivers and occupants were wearing seat belts and that alcohol was not believed to have been a factor in the crash.

Medics from Homer, Utica, Granville Township and Monroe Township all responded to the scene.

In February, The Advocate published an article about the intersection focused on residents' concerns that it was dangerous.

The Ohio Department of Transportation began a traffic study on the intersection in October, spokeswoman Ericka Pfeifer said in February. The study was expected to be completed in the spring.

Pfeifer said ODOT began the study after the intersection was put on a statewide list of the 500 biggest safety priorities.
