Lady Red 4X800 relay team headed to Columbus

Bellevue’s Kylie Vogel, Mariah McPeak, Michaela Fox and Lauren Turner qualified for the Division II State meet in the 4X800 relay after finishing second at Thursday’s regional meet at Lexington High School. The top four finishers in each event advance to the State meet in Columbus June 5-6.

“These girls have been working hard all season,” Bellevue track and field coach Lee Booze said. “They have put in a lot of hours to get back [to Columbus].”

Vogel, Turner and McPeak all qualified last year in the 4X400 and Turner also qualified in the 800 run.

“For them, it’s unfinished business,” Booze said. “They’re glad to be back, but the goal is to be on the podium this time.”

Clyde’s Paula Wollenslegel also earned a bid to Columbus in the high jump clearing 5-feet, 7-inches.

Oak Harbor’s 4X800 relay team of Abby Dornbusch, Makayla Wagner, Taylor Dunn and Annie Quisno just missed qualifying for state with a fifth-place time of 9:55.62.

The top eight finishers in each of Thursday’s preliminary heats advanced to Saturday’s regional finals.

McPeak, Fox, Turner and Liz Ish qualified for the finals in the 4X400 turning in a fourth-place time of 4:08.51.

Wollenslegel was seventh and second respectively in the 100/300 hurdles. Dominique Loparo, Haley Robinett, Alicia Carter and Renae Eberly finished eighth in the 4X200 (1:48.70).

Oak Harbor’s Andrea Cecil, Rebekah Rayburn, Karis DeWalt and Athena Eli took fourth in the 4X200 (1:46.52) and Rayburn, DeWalt, Eli and Alexa Weis placed third in the 4X100 in 50.25 seconds. Weis also qualified in the 300 hurdles (48.72). Eli, DeWalt, Quisno and Dornbusch took second in the 4X400 in 4:06.20.

Oak Harbor’s boys qualified for five of Saturday’s regional finals. Cody Pfeiffer was fourth in the 110 hurdles (14.99). Cole Weirich was seventh in the 100 dash (11.17). Weirich also qualified in the 4X200, 4X100 and 4X400 relays. Isaiah Jefferson, DeShawn Johnson, and Nick Damron also ran the fifth-place 4X200 (1:30.68). Jefferson, Johnson and Thomas Loope ran with Weirich on the 4X100 (43.87). Jake Wistinghausen, Mark Bodi and Tyler Sievert were the other members of the seventh-place 4X400 (3:24.73).

Bellevue’s Maurice Barnhouse, Seth Linder, Dakota McPeak and Quinton Brimmer also qualified for Saturday’s finals in the 4X100 finishing third in the prelims in 43.88.

Clyde’s 4X400 relay team of Caleb Gerber, Joe Bair, Collin Rieman and Zach Rieman won the preliminary heat in 3:22.57. Collin and Zach also finished third and fifth in the 400 respectively.
