Attorney: Pub workers suspended after pot charges

Advocate staff report

GRANVILLE – Three Broadway Pub kitchen workers have been suspended after recently being charged with marijuana-related offenses.

Village Law director Mike King said Saturday he was informed of the suspensions by the suspects' attorney.

Four people were charged in the matter; their cases in Granville Mayor's Court have been continued. King said their attorney on Friday requested a continuance to March 13.

The four were charged after a Granville Police Department officer reported finding them Feb. 19 with marijuana and a marijuana pipe in the kitchen of the restaurant, located on the 100 block of East Broadway.

A woman, 32, with a Newark address, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and a controlled substance. Two men with Granville addresses, ages 33 and 34, and a Newark man, 23, were charged with possession of a controlled substance. All the charges are minor misdemeanors.

According to King, three of the people were Broadway Pub employees. It was not clear which ones were on duty at the time of the arrest.

King said that according to their attorney, the three employees have been suspended until the case is resolved.

The charges were filed after the officer entered the business during an evening check, according to a police report.

The police report indicated there was no one in the front area of the bar, and after waiting for a moment, the officer went to the kitchen area to ensure the employees were OK.

The police report said the officer observed four people standing around a stove and that one of them, the woman, was smoking a glass pipe.

There also was a small glass jar containing a leafy green substance on a counter in the middle of the four people, the report stated. The officer said all four denied ownership of the glass jar and its contents.
