Lancaster police warn residents about warrant scam

Staff report

LANCASTER – The Lancaster Police Department is warning residents about a scam that is asking people to pay a fine or be arrested.

A resident reported receiving a yellow “warrant round-up” notice with red and black lettering in the mail. The warrant said that, beginning March 7, law enforcement agencies across Texas will arrest anyone with outstanding fines.

The warrant lists a fine amount owed and information on how to send a cashier’s check, money order, credit card or cash so as to avoid arrest.

If anyone does receive such a notice, do not send money. Instead, call the Lancaster Police Department at 740-687-6683.
