MANSFIELD – The Mansfield Police Department has arrested shooting suspect Khairi A. Bond in connection with the Monday shooting at Johns Park.

Bond, 19, was arrested on a felonious assault warrant in reference to the shooting of Jacques D. Sutton, 23, of Mansfield, who was shot in the right arm/elbow area, Mansfield police Capt. Shari Robertson said. A spokeswoman for OhioHealth MedCentral/Mansfield Hospital had no record of treatment for Sutton.

Police had no details to release as to what led to the shooting because the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact Major Crimes Detective Frank Parrella at 419-755-9470.

With four people recovering from gunshot wounds Monday, stemming from two separate incidents, Mansfield Police Chief Ken Coontz called for an end to gun violence.

Lamonte Gordon, 27, suffered a gunshot wound to the arm late Sunday during a fight at Baku Grotto Hall.

Dorian Voltaire, 28, was shot twice in the stomach in what appears to be an attempted robbery at 111 1/2 Wood St., and his believed assailant, 16-year-old Ashton Auflick, also was shot before running to Blymyer Avenue, where medical staff transported him to the hospital, according to police.

Of the four, the incidents at Baku Grotto Hall and John's Park are believed to be related, as are the incidents on Wood Street and Blymyer Avenue, Coontz said earlier.

"This gun violence needs to stop," Coontz said. "There are many other ways to resolve conflict than resorting to shooting each other."

All of the incidents took place in relatively public places, Coontz said. Stray bullets could have injured or killed innocent bystanders, he said.

"As a community, we need to take a firm stance against gun violence," Coontz said.
