Woodmore senior Johnson like another coach on the floor

News-Messenger report

Woodmore senior Mackenzie Johnson was like another assistant coach for Kyle Clair. Johnson is a first-team all-Northern Buckeye Conference selection for basketball with averages of 14.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.

"Mackenzie has been that rare four-year contributor on the varsity that took every experience she had and applied it to a career-best senior year," Clair said. "If there was ever something we needed as a team … a bucket, rebound or steal, she sensed it and did all she could to make it happen.

"I could tell that I was watching something special during a game when out of a timeout we had a play drawn up and while on the floor she saw something, checked to another set and proceeded to execute it perfectly."

The Wildcats' Jordan Williams is a second-team pick for the girls while Grant Weis and Drew Lewandowski are second-team for the boys.

Lake's Connor Bowen is player of the year for the boys while Otsego's Morgan Smoyer earned the honor for the girls.
