MANSFIELD – The lone survivor of a two-vehicle crash that claimed two lives Friday at Ohio 13 and Chesrown Road is dealing with serious injuries of his own.

Cory Clark, 44, of Mount Gilead, is a patient at Grant Medical Center in Columbus. His mother, Galion Councilwoman Shirley Clark, said her son suffered a shattered left shoulder, a compound fracture to his left forearm, two broken bones in his lower right leg and fractured ribs. He was wearing a seatbelt.

"He was banged up pretty bad," Shirley Clark said.

Cory Clark underwent four hours of surgeries Saturday. His mother said he faces a long recovery.

Clark was driving a 2014 Chevrolet van south on Ohio 13 around 5:45 p.m. Friday. Katelynn Myers, 25, of Greenwich, was headed west on Chesrown Road in a 2003 Acura when she ran a stop sign, causing the collision, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol's Mansfield post.

Myers' front-seat passenger, James Walker, 39, of Ashland, was pronounced dead at the scene. Myers was ejected and later died at OhioHealth MedCentral Mansfield Hospital.

"We all feel really bad about the other two," Shirley Clark said. "My heart goes out to their families."

She has been there herself.

"We just lost one son about four years ago," Shirley said.

Cory Clark, who works as an installer, was on his way home from a training session in Lorain when the crash happened.

He has four children, including two adults.

Shirley Clark said she still is recovering from a broken knee and knows the long rehabilitation her son faces. Doctors said Cory might never be able to use his left shoulder the same way again.

She also worries how her son will recover emotionally.

"He remembers everything (about the crash)," Shirley said. "This is going to affect him."

Still, she is thankful her son survived.

"He is so lucky to be alive," Shirley said. "He had a couple of angels on his shoulders. We keep saying his daddy and his brother were there."
