MARION – Local school districts have one school day to make up after a snowy, cold winter blew through Marion County.

Though the weather looks brighter this week, there is still a chance that Marion City Schools, Ridgedale Local Schools, River Valley Local Schools and Elgin Local Schools will have to make up more days later this year.

Each of these districts has used its maximum of three blizzard bag days and five calamity days.

"Blizzard bags" are online lessons that students can access at home; teachers give them a certain amount of time to complete them.

"We run into some situations where some of our township roads may not get cleared off right away because of the manpower issues they face," said Bob Britton, superintendent of Ridgedale Local Schools.

Pleasant Superintendent John Bruno said his district does not have to make up any hours yet. He said it has been "a hectic winter" with days off and the PARCC testing taking place.

"Hopefully we'll see the final wind blow," he said. "It's been hectic for every school district."
